ICA (Geraldine Murphy and Tony Simpson) presented our submission to the Select Committee on 8 June. The Select Committee has met Thursdays to hear oral submissions. Members of the Committee asked questions and we were able to highlight the financial impact on owners and the need for central government to establish financial assistance mechanisms. We do not know how far the Select Committee will get before Parliament rises on 31 July. You can access the submissions
WCC has recently presented a remit to the Local Government NZ Conference (which advocates and lobbies on behalf of local government) asking it to actively lobby central government to develop policy options to assist building owners to strengthen their buildings to recognise the public and national benefits of earthquake strengthening and increased community resilience. ICA supports this submit and congratulates WCC on taking this initiative.
